floating-vineyard-2Southeast Asia is one of the most exotic regions in the world, this is the place where summer never ends, nature never falls asleep and warm days last for all year long.

Southeast Asia is the native land for such countries as Bali, Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia and Thailand. These countries are ideal places for vacations due to their tropical climate, close geographic location to the sea, unique nature and variety of amazing sea shores.

A great surprise for the whole world was participation of these countries in London International Wine Trade Fair. This festival in general is a meeting of all noble wine experts who mark the best wine kinds represented at this festival. This competition is based on the blind tasting of wine. Another great surprise came next when one wine critic selected wine from Southeast Asia and marked it as “the best pair for all east cuisine”. Of course when he decided it he couldn’t even think that this wine was made not far from the native land of east cuisine.  Also this critiс said that this wine could take its place in any international wine company. Believe it or not but this really took place in 2000.

And now let’s trip to Thailand, Bali or Indonesia and see how they grow grapes for their wines?

Of course you will imagine traditional vineyards like in all world, some France residence in the tropical heaven. But be ready that vineyards of Southeast Asia are something different and you can hardly find another wine growing region like that.

For example, wine vineyard in Indonesia at first sight looks as a tree house for grape-growing; this is because of the fact that living trees make some kind of arbor with their upper branches. People who work in vineyards also live there to be ready for deciding any problem that can appear.

If we are going to touch Thailand than imagine Venice with wine growing areas because to take care about vines they use boats, they call it “floating vineyards”.

But there is one benefit of all Southeast Asia wine industry – endless summer conditions cause to two or even three harvests per a year. Now wine from these countries can bravely compete with wines from Australia. So if Southeast Asia wines will provide good quality level and with the number of wine they can produce per year – they have all chances to be one of the best wine producers in the whole world.

In 2004 well known food editor Mike Dunne from Sacramento Bee’s journal said that Thai wine was the first wine which won a bronze medal but was represented in Los Angeles County Fair Wines of the World festival for the first time.

So with all mentioned facts we can say that wines from Southeast Asia in the future could be more outstanding that they are now. And these countries have all chances to become New World wine countries. Let’s wish them luck in this, because some years ago producing wine in Australia seemed to be a very strange thought.
