Published by InWine at 9:08 am under Wine of Italy

Adelaide_Hills_VineyardsIn the previous article we talked about Italian wine traditions – of how their wines get their names – now let’s see where they grow grapes for that amazing beverage and discover what are the noblest types of Italian wine.

As we have said before Italy is an Old World wine country, so due to the centuries of experience in winemaking that country has a lot of regions where they grow their grapes. But the leadership and fame got the main three ones:  Tuscany, Piedmont and Venice. Now let’s have more detailed talk about them.

Tuscany region is situated near Florence; it got its fame due to producing delicious red Italian wine, predominantly from such grapes type as Sangiovese. Tuscany is the motherland for one of the most outstanding Italian wines, can you guess what it is? I am sure you have known the right answer, because you can hardly find people in the world who don’t know anything about chianti tuscany wine.

That wine you can recognize by the symbol of black rooster that is imagined on every bottle of it which symbolizes good quality and compliance of all wine making Italian traditions. Also Tuscany is known for producing the less famous but no less noble wines as Carmignano, Brunello di Montalcino, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and wine that was done in not traditional way, but also has a lot of admires,  I am talking about “Super-Tuscans” wine label.

In the North of Italy, simply near the French border, you can find Piedmont wine yards. If you are searching for region where you can see mostly the biggest variety of grapes and wine, you certainly must visit piedmont wine area. There were created such well known wine kinds as Barbaresco, Barolo and Asti (wonderful example of Italian sparkling wine) and now are produced through all the time that past.

If you belong to the category of people who love white French wine then you are certainly here about Venice wine region- the place where practically all types of white Italian wine are produced. The best examples of the high quality and taste characteristics of white wine venise brought to the world are Pinot Grigio wine and Soave wine.виноград

Believe it or not, but there is one unique thing of Italian grapes that you can hardly meet elsewhere. They grow such rare grapes types as: Trebbiano, Malvasia, Tocai, Friulano, Montepulciano, Dolcetto, Barbera Nebbiolo. But don’t think about it too much, expecting something really extraordinary from these unique types of grapes. Because the most interesting are only two types of Italian grapes – Sangiovese and Nebbiolo that are used for making really good red kind of Italian wine.

We hope the knowing of Italian wine regions and variety of Italian wine will help you to make you choice among the plenty of wine kinds in Italy. Remember that the most outstanding types of them are: Chianti, Pinot Grigio, Moscato d’Asti Barbaresco, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Brunello di Montalcino, Soave and others, more detailed talk about them we will have in the next article.
