Rate the Wine?!

Published by InWine at 11:49 am under Articles

rateWe are used to ratings in our life and we have standards for mostly everything. At work we try to be in the upper stage of labor ladder so we work hard and get our scores. We like to know, who is number one music singer in different world’s charts, we watch Olympic Games and other sport competitions to discover who will be the winner and of cause we want to be at home earlier to watch Oscar the purpose of which you know without our explanations.

But who among you would suggest that there is a rating system for every wine?! And even more – wine gets three different marks from three different categories of people. Wine gets its scores from wine makers, wine lovers and then in some wine magazines everyone could read another meaning from wine expert. Let’s find the answer to the question – how we should rate wine and why the ratings of it range.

If we like to know the official rating of any kind of wine we can see it in magazines dedicated to this amazing drink. Among the most famous wine magazines are Wine Spectator and Wine Advocate, but in any country we can find analogs of these publications. In United Kingdom it is Decanter, in United States it is Wine Press Northwest, Oregon Wines and others.

The meaning of experts in different wine magazines is very important and it usually creates our first vision of wine. It will surprise you but there are no approved and uniform rules for those persons who create wine ratings except for the meaningrate2 of wine experts.

Experts rate wine for the taste and aroma of it, they pay attention to wine bouquet and can tell you in detail from what and when it was made. Even the small nuances in taste and smell of wine will not be able to escape from the experts.

Practically all wine ratings and reviews systems test wines for their basic characteristics: aroma, color, bouquet, taste, food pairing and balance. Sometimes they compare the wine they test with other wines from that region.

You can find wine ratings table with a 100 point scale assessment or a table with a five-point. Everything is clear if we have a five-point table, but what to do with hundred points. First, don’t look at wines than are rated for less than 50 points, because even wines that get from 50 to 69 points are not so good. Good and excellent wine starts with 80 points, if you are going to try that kinds of wine and have doubts because of high price on it be sure it is worth it.

Everybody knows that tastes differ, so it is good that you want to try only the best one, but don’t trust opinions of wine experts for all 100 percents when you will make your choice in wine for the first time. To discover whether expert scores are right for you or not, you should try wines from different raters and then you will know whose wine ratings are suitable for you.
