barossa valleyWithout a doubt this is the only wine region people can name you if you ask them: “What do you know about wining in Australia?” And be sure that if they won’t mention even this region they know nothing about wine at all.

There well-known Australian wine producers grow their grapes – among them we can mark Penfolds , Peter Lehmann, Wolf Blass, Krondorf, Orlando, Seppelts and Yalumba. Also we can add to this list such boutique owners as Greenock Creek, Rockfords, Torbreck and others.

Now let’s speak about general climate conditions of Barossa Valley. So this australian wine region is located in the north west of Adelaide, just nearly in 45 minutes of drive from it. Sea influence is not actual in this region unlike McLaren Vale. If you visit Barossa Valley you will hardly notice that there are several degrees warmer than in Adelaide, but this fact is very important for grape growing because it provides dry summer conditions that are so good for grape ripening. But this fact also denotes that you can forget about trying to grow in Barossa Valley such grape varieties as Sauvignon Blanc or Pinor Noir. They grow there only grapes with full, ripe and rich taste.

Now let us discover what kinds of wine this region is famous for.

First type of wine they produce is called Semillon. Semillon is famous for its rich flavour and bouquet, only ripe sorts of grapes can provide it and that is why Semillon wine from Hunter Valley is not so good as from Barossa Valley. A good pair for it will be some seafood or maybe sausages.

Second type of wine is well known all over the world but hardly anyone could tell you that in Australia it is very good. For those who haven’t guess for now we are talking about chardonay wine. Try it when it is young and with some poultry or seafood dishes.

Third kind of wine is Grenache, enjoy it with various dishes from meat.

Other kinds of wine that are also excellent in Barossa Valley are Shiraz, Port, Cabernet Savignon and Merlot. All of them are extremely rich in taste and flavour.

So remember that Barossa Valley is a motherland of wines with rich and ripe taste and amazing bouquet.
